Our Story: The Margaret River Truffle Pioneers
Back in 2008, amidst the rolling vineyards and renowned wineries of Margaret River, we embarked on a journey that many deemed "crazy." While others were planting vines, we had a different vision: to become the first farm in the region to cultivate the prized black Périgord truffle.
We heard the murmurs of doubt – "too close to the sea," "not cold enough," "wrong soil type" – but our passion for truffles fuelled our determination. With a mix of apprehension and excitement, we planted three hectares of oak and hazel trees, each inoculated with Périgord truffle spores by renowned nurseryman Al Blakers.
Six long years passed, filled with hard work and anticipation. Then, one magical day, the truffle-hunting dogs unearthed our very first truffle. The celebration that followed was one we'll never forget. It was proof that our "crazy" idea might have some success after all.
Since that day, our family-run business has flourished. Through dedication and a commitment to quality, we've seen our truffle production grow exponentially, with our Margaret River truffles shipped to destinations around the globe as well as supplying local foodies with this culinary gem.
The positive feedback we've received from seasoned truffle experts – even from France! – and from truffle lovers of all backgrounds has only strengthened our belief that Margaret River truffles can rival the best in the world.
In 2021, we expanded our offerings to include a small but exquisite line of truffle products. Using our own high-grade truffles, we craft truffle oil using a premium local extra virgin olive oil, truffle honey using a neighbour's Marri honey, and a unique pink Himalayan truffle salt.
We invite you to share in our passion for truffles. Visit us at the Margaret River Farmers Market every Saturday morning during truffle season. Meet us and let's chat about all things truffle.
We're always happy to collaborate with local businesses and chefs to showcase the unique flavours of our region.
